Selection according to engineering quality requirements
1. if you want to get a uniform compaction density, you can choose the tire roller. The tyre roller does not destroy the original viscosity of the soil during rolling, and has good bonding property between the soil layers, and the front wheel can swing, so the compaction is more uniform, and there is no false compaction.
2. if you want to make the road compaction flat, you can choose the full drive roller. The roller with low line pressure and flexible mobility can be used in the areas where the compacting capacity of rollers is not high. If the compaction effect is achieved as soon as possible, a large tonnage roller can be used to shorten the construction period.
According to the type of highway (grade) selection:
1. to one or two national highway and road car, 6~10t should be used with high compaction capacity of large vibroll; for the following three roads, or not often compaction, best equipped with about 2T flexible vibratory roller.
2. for cement concrete pavement, tire driven series vibratory roller can be used; for asphalt concrete pavement, full drive vibratory roller should be selected;

3. for senior road subgrade bottom, the best selection of tyre roller or wheel drive vibratory compaction, in order to obtain uniform compactness; pavement repair may use static type smooth wheel roller.
According to the selection of ply thickness:
1. in the roller compacted asphalt concrete pavement, the weight, amplitude and vibration frequency of roller should be selected according to the paving thickness of the mixture. Generally, it is better to use a vibratory roller with a 2~6t amplitude of 0.35~0.60mm in a thin layer with a thickness of less than 60mm, so as to avoid stacking, wave initiation and damage to aggregate;
2. at the same time, in order to prevent the asphalt mixture is too cold, should be followed by rolling after paving. For thick layers with thickness greater than 100mm, large and medium vibratory rollers with high amplitudes (up to 1.0mm) and 6~10t shall be used.
According to the type selection of the pressed material:
1. for rock fill compaction, large tonnage roller should be used in order to make large block displacement; for the compaction of clay, it is better to use bump tamping roller;
2. for the compaction of mixture, it is better to choose vibratory roller, in order to make the mixture of large and small particles uniform; deep compaction should use heavy vibratory roller to slow rolling; shallow layer should choose Static acting roller.
