Too high viscosity will cause oil absorption difficulty at low temperature starting, and in severe cases will cause oil supply interruption at low temperature start, and equipment failure occurs. On the contrary, when the hydraulic system viscosity is too low, it will increase the internal and external leakage of hydraulic equipment, the hydraulic system working pressure is unstable, the pressure is reduced, the hydraulic components are not to, and serious will lead to pump wear increase.

The selection of viscosity level should first be decided by the type of pump, and each type of pump has the optimum viscosity range applicable to it: vane pump is 25 ~ 68mm2/S, plunger pump and gear pump are 30 ~ 115mm2/S. The minimum working viscosity of vane pump should not be lower than 10mm2/S, and the maximum starting viscosity should not be greater than 700mm2/S. The minimum working viscosity of the plunger pump should not be less than 8mm2/S, and the maximum starting viscosity should not be greater than 1000mm2/S. Gear pump requires greater viscosity, minimum working viscosity should not be less than 20mm2/S, the maximum starting viscosity can reach 2000mm2/S.
The selection of viscosity level should also consider the working conditions of the pump, the use of high temperature and pressure of the hydraulic system to choose high viscosity hydraulic oil, you can get better lubricity, on the contrary, low temperature and pressure, should choose a lower viscosity, which can save energy consumption. In addition, the working viscosity of the hydraulic oil at the lowest temperature should not be greater than the maximum viscosity of the pump.
