Mani Tova J: Construction and construction of New Zealand
Compact Kawerau placed in the construction site of the North Island of New Zealand narrow area, a 400 tons (450 tons) of Grove GMK6400 and 300 tons (350 ton) GMK6300L to overcome several obstacles underground and ground, completed two collaborative tasks in one of the world's largest wood factory.
Tasman Mill year-round business, the annual processing more than 1 million 100 thousand tons (1 million 200 thousand tons) of wood. Pedersen 's Industries took over the yard and the wood factory management and operation in 2004, recently decided to upgrade the system.
As one of the leading crane professional companies in New Zealand, Pollock & Sons was selected from its 10 Grove cranes to provide equipment hoisting services for the wood plant. The company chose two of the largest cranes, GMK6400 and GMK6300L.
From Pollock & Sons in New Zealand Tauranga City headquarters to Tasman Mill construction site long range 100 km (62 miles), two Grove crane began demanding work, including lifting pipe drainage system, navigation and other obstacles.
"The two cranes are assembled quickly, and rigging is straight, which allows us to use minimal stopping time to move the crane at the site," explains Carl Hawkings, the dispatch manager of Pollock &Sons.
"GMK6400 MegaWingLift accessories enable us to achieve higher capacity with longer boom. Without this attachment, the lifting operation of the project will not be completed. The customer is very satisfied with our work efficiency. "
In the project, a new peeling drum system should be installed for the peeling machine. Peeling drum old system four times removed, each weight is about 62.5 tons (69 tons). Log table is also removed, each weighing in at 35 tons (39 tons) to 55 tons (61 tons). For these assignments, GMK6400 with 135 tons (149 tons) and the counterweight is equipped with a MegaWingLift lifting capacity lifting accessories, in some arm position maximum lifting capacity increased by 70%. Like GMK6400, GMK6300L is also full with 92.5 tons (102 tons) balance weight.
After removing the old drums, two cranes hoist 84 tons (93 tons), 25 meters long (82 feet) and 3.7 meters (12 feet) of the new drums, respectively. Due to the narrow construction site, it is necessary to hoist the peeling drum to 13 meters (43 feet) height between two cranes to avoid buildings. There is little gap between GMK6300L's boom and recent obstacles.
Peeling drum hoisting in place, to install the log conveying chute to peeling drum, each weighing 50 tons (55 tons) to 60 tons (66 tons).
"The biggest challenge we face is to put the peeling drum between two cranes and turn it up without any lifting arm," explained Hawkings. "Because of the different swing radius and lifting capacity of the two cranes, the lifting needs a lot of time and planning. But our team of experts and reliable equipment made it possible for us to successfully complete this collaboration. "
Now the new system has been installed and running along the conveyor belt, the logs were sent to the rotary peeling drum, side with each other and with the rolling log bark peeling drum was stripped off, and this is a favourite work of Grove.
The crane is sold by the local dealer Tidd RossTodd Limited to Pollock & Sons, which also provides customer support services at the construction site.
