The world's first 3D printing excavator or will build a house on Mars

Recently, the world's first 3D printing excavator was born, the excavator named AME, by Equipment Manufacturers Association (AEM), the U.S. National Fluid Power Association (NFPA), high performance liquid power center (CCEFP), the National Science Foundation, and the famous American Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) jointly launched. 5 famous American organization of the project, other participants included Georgia Polytechnic University and University of Minnesota.

It is understood that the excavator has a lot of 3D printing, including arms, cockpit, and some engine components, of which the arm is 20 feet long (about 6 meters), and the cockpit size is 30 feet X10 feet. Here's the cockpit. It is designed by a University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign team of engineers 5 people, according to the structure obtained from the nature of inspiration to do the optimization, so very strong, and weighs only 150 pounds (about 68 kg), compared with the traditional method of manufacturing the light 25%.

In addition, the development of this machine is also very interesting, it is said to be eventually sent to Mars, and then used to build houses. "We want to send a 3D printer to Mars, and then copy the mini excavator there - which will certainly facilitate the construction of Mars base." CCEFP team representation.

I believe that with the progress of technology, this interesting excavator might really be a big boost for Mars base construction, but before that, it will be the first appearance in the United States of Las Vegas construction trade show on 2017. So if you're interested in it, think about flying closer to watch it.
